HISTORY OF NEW YORK WIPING
N. Rothenberg & Son was founded in the early 1900's, when Nathan Rothenberg arrived in New York from Eastern Europe. Nathan became a used clothing peddler and with a lot of hard work and determination, was able to raise and support his family. His oldest son, Morris was a bright young man who decided to help his father develop the used clothing business.
Nathan and his son Morris moved their operations to New York City and opened an establishment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Here they were able to develop the company to the fullest since they had the facilities, equipment and personnel needed to transform the company.
Morris eventually became President of the company and it became quite successful. His son, Marvin, was interested in the family business and spent summers working for his father.
During the 1940's Marvin decided to join the company. In 1949, he arrived in Puerto Rico and saw great potential to expand the family buseiness outside of New York and told his father about establishing a company in the island. his father agreed and Marvin opened a small warehouse in Santurce.
Marvin established his residence in the island with his wife and four children. He continued to develop the company from a used clothing and government surplus operation and expanded his business by establishing a manufacturing company that produced industrial wipers. The company was named NEW YORK WIPING PRODUCTS (NYW). It catered to manufacturing companies that were growing very fast due to the local tax incentives.
After many years of hard work and success, NEW YORK WIPING grew as well as Marvin's children. His son Morris Rothenberg finished College in 1980 and decided to join the company. After Marvin passed away in 1987, Morris became President of NEW YORK WIPING.
In 1992, Morris decided to move its operations into an innovative 16,000 square foot facility in Amelia Industrial Park in Guaynabo. In 1996, the company continued to expand by adding various new safety product lines. It was renamed NEW YORK WIPING & INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS, a manufacturer of wiping material and a leading distributor of safety products in Puerto Rico.
It was then that Morris Rothenberg realized he already had a direct distribution channel established with the customers from NYW and saw a niche to introduce and expand the company in other safety related products so in 2000, he decided to creae a new concept within NEW YORK WIPING & INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS and introduced to the market .... SAFETY ZONE.
